How to get under 1MB

Most phone photos fit without resizing. Only consider a long edge around 1920px when the original is extremely large (for example over 4000px).
How does 1MB affect quality?
With twice the budget of 500KB, the same photo usually keeps more detail—ideal when clarity matters more than the smallest possible file.
Photos and screenshots behave differently. Camera JPEGs often look fine at 1MB; UI-heavy PNG screenshots may blur if forced to JPEG, so prefer WebP or a modest resize.
If you still can’t get under 1MB
Near-RAW resolution photos or huge PNG screenshots can still miss 1MB. Step the long edge down (2560px → 1920px) while recompressing.
